The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) allows eligible children to receive up to $1,158 for basic dental services over two consecutive calendar years. Unfortunately, many Blacktown, NSW, families have unused balance sitting in their child's account without realising it. It’s important to know that any unused funds do not carry over once the two-year period ends.
Who Is Eligible for CDBS?
Your child may be eligible for the CDBS if they:
- Are aged between 0 and 17 years
- Are eligible for Medicare
- Are part of a family receiving an eligible Australian Government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, for at least one day in the calendar year
You can confirm eligibility through your MyGov account.
What Services Does the CDBS Cover?
The CDBS covers basic dental services that matter most for children's oral health:
- Routine check-ups and cleans allow us to catch decay and gum problems early, before they need more involved treatment.
- X-rays help your dentist see decay between teeth and check how adult teeth are developing beneath the surface.
- Fissure sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the grooves of back teeth, where decay most commonly starts in children.
- Fillings treat cavities before they reach the nerve and require more complex care.
- Root canal treatment saves an infected tooth rather than removing it,
- Extractions may be the only option when a tooth cannot be saved, preventing infection from spreading
The CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work, or hospital services.
