Dental Crowns and Bridges in Blacktown

tooth crown in blacktownDental crowns are a premier dental restoration with incredible versatility and impressive longevity. They also have a long history, with early tooth coverings dating back four millennia discovered in the Philippines and gold teeth in ancient Italy. But the dental crowns we know today are a product of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Along with traditional metal and gold crowns, porcelain crowns have become more popular as they look more natural.

Peak Dental Care offers many types of dental crowns, from pure engineered porcelain to porcelain-fused-to-metal, and even full metal or gold crowns for your hard-working back teeth. We are dedicated to working with you and matching you to the ideal dental crown for your unique needs.

This also includes the newest breakthrough in dental crown technology: the same-day dental crown. In addition, our new clinic features a CEREC machine for designing and producing high-grade ceramic crowns while you wait.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Crowns?

Restoring a compromised tooth with a dental crown offers several advantages you may not have considered.
Aesthetics
A porcelain crown closely mimics your natural tooth in shape, form, and shade, complementing your smile.
Function
A crown may restore the chewing function of your natural tooth so you can comfortably enjoy your food.
Alignment
Restoring your natural tooth helps preserve your tooth alignment, keeping neighbouring teeth from shifting.
Bite
A crown may protect your remaining natural tooth structure and preserve correct bite alignment.
Nutrition
When you can chew comfortably, you can eat the healthy and nutritious foods you love.

Frequently Asked Questions

woman smiling while sitting on a beachThere are many negative consequences if you do not replace a missing tooth, and those problems compound over time. Apart from extracted wisdom teeth, we recommend replacing a missing tooth for several reasons.

Beyond the apparent embarrassment of the way a missing tooth may appear, you also can suffer numerous oral health problems, such as:

  • Diminished ability to enjoy crunchy foods
  • Chewing pressure is unevenly distributed among the remaining teeth
  • The remaining teeth shift into the gap left by a missing tooth
  • Shifting teeth become misaligned, further impacting your bite
  • An uneven bite can cause jaw joint problems and further tooth loss

The cycle of missing teeth will repeat itself until you choose a tooth replacement option that fits your needs best.

How We Replace Missing Teeth in Blacktown

At Peak Dental Care, we offer several options for replacing one, several or even all your natural teeth.

A fixed dental bridge – This appliance replaces one or more adjacent teeth with the same number of artificial teeth anchored by natural teeth on either, usually reinforced by a pair of dental crowns. We design this option to match your smile, and because it is non-removable, you care for a dental bridge like your natural teeth through regular brushing, flossing and routine dental visits.

Partial denture – Similar to a dental bridge, a partial replaces multiple teeth. We use a lightweight chrome framework to create a comfortable base that connects to the remaining teeth through special attachments. This option is removable for cleaning and maintenance.

Complete denture – If you’ve lost all your teeth on your upper or lower jaw, we can offer a complete denture that restores your smile and the ability to enjoy a full range of foods. For extra security, we can provide an implant-retained option that connects your denture directly to your jawbone for complete restoration.

We can create dental crowns in Blacktown using various materials, including:

  • All Metal
  • Metal-fused-to-Metal
  • Zirconia
  • All Porcelain

We also offer CEREC same-day crowns, so you don’t have to wait weeks for your restoration. In many cases, this method means only one dental visit. CEREC crowns are all porcelain.

Your dentist will help you choose the best crown type for your situation.

Reasons You Might Need a Dental Crown

In many cases, the dentist recommends a dental crown if you have a damaged or unstable tooth, sometimes following injury or root canal infection. The crown protects the tooth and reestablishes your chewing force.

Crowns also connect bridge teeth to natural teeth and cap dental implant roots above the gumline.

Patients may also choose a crown to hide imperfections like short teeth, chips, discolouration, or other general flaws.

Caring for Dental Crowns

Tooth crowns are easy to care for. You brush and floss them as usual and continue seeing your dentist for regular checks and cleans.

If your crown ever feels loose or becomes damaged, we invite you to contact our dental clinic for a repair or replacement.

For Dental Crowns, Our Blacktown Dentist Welcomes Your Call

We offer various crown types to address specific needs. We encourage you to contact a dental team member to learn more or to book a consultation with the dentist.

Dental crowns are a common dental procedure used to restore the shape, size, strength and appearance of teeth. If you've recently had dental crowns or you're considering this treatment, it's important to understand that dental crowns require special care to maintain their condition and functionality.

Daily Care and Maintenance

Maintaining your dental crowns is similar to caring for your natural teeth, but with a few extra precautions:

  • Regular Brushing and Flossing — Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to clean your teeth gently. Floss carefully around your crowns to remove plaque and prevent gum disease.
  • Avoid Hard Foods — Although dental crowns are strong, biting on hard foods like ice or hard candies can cause them to crack or become dislodged. It's best to avoid these foods or chew them cautiously.
  • Prevent Teeth Grinding — If you grind your teeth at night, we invite you to consider getting a mouthguard from your dentist in Blacktown, NSW.

Regular Dental Check-Ups

Your Blacktown dentist can check the condition of your crowns, perform professional cleaning and address any issues before they become significant problems.

Why You Might Need a Dental Crown

When Dr Hanna examines your teeth, he may discover damage that can’t be repaired with a tooth-coloured filling or other dental restoration. To save your remaining tooth structure, a dental crown acts as a cap to cover the tooth on all sides. On the outside, this restoration resembles your tooth because we design its shape and colour to fit with your existing smile.

In Blacktown, your dentist will recommend a crown for various reasons, such as:

  • A tooth weakened by numerous or extensive fillings
  • A fractured tooth in danger of falling apart
  • Protection for a tooth after root canal therapy
  • Fixing a misshapen or discoloured tooth
  • Part of a dental bridge
  • Finishing a single-tooth dental implant

In many cases, a dental crown will be the last thing we can offer before having to extract your tooth completely. If you need a crown, we recommend that you contact our office right away.

Modern Technology for Porcelain Crowns in Blacktown

woman smiling in blacktown dental clinic

As part of the planning process for your crown, we use a digital scanner to create all crown impressions. An impression is a three-dimensional mockup of your restoration. This beats the traditional impression method, which made a physical model of your crown. By doing it digitally, we can send the data to our precision dental labs instantaneously. This technology results in crowns with the most accurate fit possible. And it cuts the time your new crown takes to produce.

Lab-produced crowns may take advantage of several different materials, including:

  • All porcelain
  • Zirconia
  • All metal
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM)

Dr Hanna will offer the type of crown best for the affected tooth. For example, front teeth are the most visible, porcelain crowns are the most popular, while metal crowns may last longer for molars. But in the end, you will have the final say in what kind of crown fits your smile best.

Dental Bridges Can Replace Multiple Teeth

Dental crowns may also be incorporated into a tooth replacement appliance called a dental bridge. We offer this option for replacing one or more teeth together in a row. We can design a bridge supported by adjoining natural teeth or with an underlying metal framework for heavy usage. Unlike a traditional denture, these are fixed in your mouth and cannot be removed.

Dental Implants as a Tooth Replacement Option

Another option for replacing teeth and supporting dental bridges is dental implants. These are securely attached to your jawbone, much like natural teeth, but your implant root is made from titanium for strength and durability. Implants can replace one tooth or many, depending on your needs.

We Offer Custom Dental Crowns and Bridges

Your teeth are a precious resource that we can often save and restore in numerous ways using tooth crowns and related dental appliances like bridges and dental implants. Our experience and dental technology contribute to the process.

To learn more, we invite you to contact our Blacktown dental clinic and arrange a consultation with one of our caring dentists.

Dental Crowns and Bridges Technology

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic X-Rays (also known as an OPG)

Standard digital x-rays focus on specific areas of your teeth and provide a static image of those areas. Panoramic x-rays (also known as OPGs), on the other hand, offer a complete view of your teeth, jaw bone, joints, skull and other features.

An OPG stands for orthopantomogram, a panoramic 2D dental X-ray that shows the dentist a broad view of the teeth, gum and jaws. An OPG only takes a few minutes to complete and requires the patient to hold still for approximately 20 seconds.

With this technology, we can zoom in and move around the areas where you may require treatment options. Among the uses of panoramic x-rays are:

  • Visualisation of unerupted teeth (e.g. in children)
  • Location and shape of wisdom teeth that have not erupted
  • Oral surgery planning
  • Dental implant placement locations
  • Diagnosis of potential oral cancer
  • Discovery of TMJ disorders or issues with your jaw joint

We can combine panoramic x-rays with other imaging techniques when performing a full smile makeover so we can treat your oral health condition in a genuinely holistic way.

At Peak Dental Care, we have an OPG machine on-site, which allows our dentists to access and evaluate your results immediately.
