The importance of regular dental check-ups cannot be underestimated as they are the foundation of any good oral health care plan. When you maintain routine dental visits, you enable our dental team to monitor the condition of your teeth, gums, jaws and other oral tissues. We can assemble a more complete picture of your oral situation each time we see you and predict the best ways to keep your teeth healthy.
What Does Your Regular Dental Check-Up Include?
Examination – We begin each exam by discussing what you’ve noticed about your mouth and teeth, including your smile goals and complaints. Then Dr Hanna will inspect each tooth with his expert eye, noting any observations that might indicate an issue with one or more teeth. He will also focus on your gums, looking for signs of potential periodontal disease. In addition, he can note signs of oral cancer and check the health of your jaw joint, also called your TMJ or temporomandibular joint.
Diagnosis – To confirm potential problems, our dental team may take digital x-rays to look inside your teeth. This allows us to spot tooth decay and assess whether you need cavities filled to prevent further tooth damage. We also can determine your bone health, and if you need dental restorations like dental implants, we create digital impressions that are cleaner and more precise than traditional methods and can be shared with the press of a button.
Cleaning – After your exam, one of our dental hygienists will perform a clean procedure using specialized tools and skills to target and remove plaque and other accumulations on your teeth and gums. We give attention to all tooth surfaces, including the backs and between teeth. To complete your cleaning procedure, we polish your teeth, so they look and feel fresh and clean.
