Do I need to have my wisdom teeth removed?

Your wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that come in during your late teens or early 20s. Experts estimate that two out of every three people will need their wisdom teeth removed. As part of your regular check-ups, your dentist should monitor the development of your third molars to predict whether they will cause future problems.

  • Intense jaw pain
  • Headaches
  • Dental infections
  • Teeth shifting

How to Know When to Extract Your Wisdom Teeth

If your Blacktown dentist thinks you may require wisdom teeth removal, the first step is a complete exam combined with digital x-rays so Dr Hanna can evaluate whether your jaw can fit all four wisdom teeth. The goal in diagnosis is to extract wisdom teeth before they become impacted. In this case, most procedures can be simple extractions where we remove the tooth directly.

Impacted wisdom teeth often require surgical extraction. Instead of pulling them directly, sideways molars must be broken apart and removed piece by piece. This is a surgical procedure for which you want an experienced oral surgeon who can guide you through the entire process.

We Invite You to Call Our Blacktown Clinic

Signs of impending wisdom teeth issues include tooth and jaw pain, sensitive gums, sore second molars, gum redness, or infection. We recommend you call our dental clinic if you observe any of these.
