Dentures and Partials
Dentures are removable, mouthpiece-like prosthetic devices designed to replace the missing teeth and surrounding tissue of patients who, whether due to decay, accident, disease or age, have lost some or all of their teeth. Each set of dentures is custom-made, typically of natural-looking porcelain, acrylic resin, or an acrylic resin-metal combination.
Different Types of Dentures
Most sets of dentures fall into one of three categories:
- Complete – When all of the teeth from the upper or lower jaw, or both, are missing, a complete denture may be required. Complete dentures are designed to fit snugly over the gums and jawbone.
- Partial – In cases in which a few teeth are missing, a partial denture may be recommended. Partial dentures are designed to attach to remaining teeth via clasps or other attachments, filling in gaps between natural teeth and restoring the form and function of the mouth.
- Implant-supported – Removable dentures that attach to dental implants in the jawbone, for which they receive support and stability. Implant-supported dentures are known for providing a particularly secure and comfortable fit.
Dentures in Blacktown, NSW

Caring for your dentures properly helps extend their lifespan while maintaining good oral health. Daily cleaning and care when handling them helps prevent damage, staining and bacteria buildup that can affect your dentures and your gums.
Daily Denture Cleaning Routine
Clean your dentures at least twice daily; once in the morning and once before bed. Handle them carefully over a folded towel or basin of water to prevent breakage if you drop them.
- After eating, rinse dentures after eating to loose food particles.
- Brush all surfaces with a soft-bristled denture brush and mild soap or denture cleanser.
- Avoid using regular toothpaste, which can scratch denture surfaces.
- Avoid hot water, which can warp denture material.
Overnight Denture Soaking
We encourage patients to remove dentures each night to allow the gums to rest and prevent bacterial growth. You can soak them in clean water or a denture-cleaning solution to keep them moist and clean. Never let dentures dry out completely, as this can cause them to lose their shape and fit poorly.
Regular Professional Check-Ups
We encourage patients to visit the dentist regularly for denture assessment and oral tissue examination. Your mouth changes over time, and dentures may require adjustments or relining to maintain a proper fit. Professional check-ups also allow early detection of any oral health issues.
